you used to be the reason, for my smile.you still are.

pulling at my heartstrings.
at geylang serai today, a lil boy of less than 5 yrs and his older sis of no more than 7 yrs old, tugged at my hand and asked for a token sum of money to be put insde their tupperware cash box.
at first, i was reluctant to give. But after watching them walk away, heads in obvious disappointment, i called them back and changed my mind.
not before i managed to 'interview' them and ask them questions like where they came from and who put them up to it and stuff..
the boy was much easier to talk to, with him being really young and innocent. the older sis was much guarded, as if she had been sworn to secrecy.
and so, in my few mins of chatting with the lil handsome thing, i found out that it was their uncle who put them up to it and that they had no father.
they had stopped school ard 2 yrs ago and were living separately from their mother.

we were still talking when the sis just suddenly grabbed hold of her adik's hand and ran away from the joo chiat complex. i didnt exactly realise why until i saw 2 men in blue uniform on random patrol just opposite.

its just so obvious these kids have been denied their basic rights to education. they are clearly deficient in the need for love, care and concern. in their eyes, i could sense a weariness in them. a sense of lost and a total desire to return to their childhood. without proper guidance, how are they going to survive this increasingly harsh society?
are they going to be like this forever?
God, please take pity on them. bring them out of their misery and guide them to the right path.
